There is no sure way to know if you're going to get lung cancer. Certain factors can make you more likely to get lung cancer than another person. Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, with nearly 90 percent of lung cancers thought to be a result of smoking. Additional risk factors include:
secondhand smoke
smoking marijuana cigarettes
recurring inflammation, such as from tuberculosis or pneumonia

Although scientists can't pinpoint what causes every case of cancer, most agree that up to 40 percent of cases are diet-related.
